The 50-2 vote sent the proposal to Gov. Bruce Rauner, who approved the law immediately.  Local officials believe it won’t disrupt other students.  State Sen. Cristina Castro is calling it “Ashley’s Law” due to a recent case of an 11-year-old student being denied medical cannabis prescribed to her to alleviate symptoms of leukemia treatment.  Castro believes children should not have to choose between their medication and their education. For some who may be concerned, Dunlap Schools Superintendent Dr. Scott Dearman said not everyone will have access to marijuana. “I think the biggest ease I can tell my parents is that the difference is between the recreational and the medical use of marijuana, and the diagnosis of a medical condition.
