Girard Police uncover indoor marijuana grow near high school

Posted: Jul 25, 2018 11:42 AM EDT GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) – Girard police uncovered what they say was an elaborate marijuana-growing operation at a house near Girard High School.  Police say the findings come after a three-week investigation. Officers searched a home on Parkview Drive, uncovering what they say were multiple marijuana plants inside.  The homeowner, Anthony Maiorana, II, faces charges of illegal manufacturing/cultivation of marijuana. Police also say since the home is within 1,000 feet of a school, the penalty will rise to a felony. In a picture from the Girard Police Department’s Facebook page, you can see there is a clear view of Girard High School stadium from the window in a room that police said was used to grow the plants. Wednesday, Maiorana had no comment on the allegations.  Police said Maiorana told investigators that he had only been growing the plants for about four months due to a medical condition.  Detectives believe otherwise.  “The quality that was there, I believe that this gentleman probably had done it for quite some time,” said Detective Greg Manente.  Police said each plant has a street value of about $1,500.  Warren crime activity: Circle K Girard Police uncover indoor marijuana grow near high school
