Police and the landlord of an El Monte warehouse discovered Monday that the solar panel business owner renting the space was actually growing thousands of marijuana plants with a street value of about $1 million, investigators said. El Monte police officers seized nearly 2,700 marijuana plants from the small warehouse in the 2600 block of Strozier Street at around 4 p.m. on Monday. Two workers who were there were also detained, but were not arrested, said El Monte police Detective Ryan Abbott. The tenant was not at the location at the time. The owner of the building called police after he was unable to contact his tenant renting the space over a building code violation, Abbott said. The landlord said the tenant ran a solar panel business. El Monte landlord, police find 2600 marijuana plants at warehouse that was supposed to be solar panel company
