ST. PETERSBURG — United States Coast Guard crews on Tuesday unloaded 2,600 pounds of marijuana that were seized during a 71-day deployment in the Caribbean Sea. The crew from the Coast Guard Cutter Resolute confiscated the marijuana, worth an estimated $2.2 million, officials said. On March 17, crew members took 2,600 pounds of marijuana from two smuggling vessels in international waters with the help of a Customs and Border Protection plane. They also held seven suspected smugglers, according to the Coast Guard. “By working hand-in-hand with DHS partners and the nation of Jamaica, we were able to efficiently interdict the 2,600 pounds of marijuana seen on the pier today,” Carmen DeGeorge, the Resolute’s commanding officer, said in a news release.
